Chilli is a branched, erect herb which comes under the variety of shrubs and its fruit is used in flavouring and garnishing many dishes.
The dried but not crushed pepper gives you this spice and India is the largest producer of red chillies in the world. This member of the Solanaceae family is sown in hot and humid weather and harvested after three-four months. It has Capsaicin, an active alkaloid, which results in the pungent smell and spicy flavour. It contains a good concentration of vitamin A, C and E.
