Cowpeas are commonly referred to as Lobia peas in India. It can be used in various forms punjabi rongi , Andhra bobbarlu or chawli kathod.
Cowpea is also known as black eye beans because of the small dot that looks like an eye. Commonly referred to as lobia, chawla in India, it is soft textured; pale in colour. It is used in preparations like dal, curries and salads. This crop grows in semi-arid regions and needs less water to grow and so this is widely used in Africa and other warm countries
